Green Building Resource Center Opens in Houston

The City of Houston Code Enforcement is opening the Green Building Resource Center today, April 22, 2009 with the Mayor's Press Conference at 4:00 P.M. This coincides with Earth Day which shows Houston's intent in becoming a greener city that recommends conservation of energy and water.

At a sneak preview yesterday, the resource center is going to be very impressive where consumers will have an opportunity to learn how to make their homes and offices more energy efficient and consume less resources. Solar Control Films Inc.  was installing their Dual Reflective 15 window film, tint, that falls within the energy recommendations of Houston. The Green Building Council recommends window films with a shading coefficient (SC) of .40 or better (less/lower). The Dual Reflective 15 has a SC of .27 which makes it an excellent choice in blocking the heat from entering your home or office.

How does window film conserve energy? Let's get technical: Metalized films block up to 88% of the solar energy from entering your home or office; thus reducing the load on your A/C system and saving energy. A film with a shading coefficient of .18 such as a Dual Reflective 5% will conserve up to 12.5 kWh of energy per year per square foot (SF) in Houston. A consumer that pays $.16 per kWh will save an estimated $2.00 per year per SF with an efficient HVAC system and save even more with a less efficient HVAC system.

So what does that mean to you? A home or office with 3,000 square feet of windows with reflective film can save as much as $6,000 per year. And window film works during peak demand (10 A.M and 4 P.M) thus saving the grid system even more.

More information about how window film works can be found by calling them at 877.989.3456 / 713.681.3000. The professionals at SCF will be happy to recommend the best film to fit your individual need along with a professional local installer, tinting professionals. Having the right tinter install your film is as important choosing the right film.
